60th Anniversary celebrations
Our 60th Anniversary celebrations was a wonderful success. The event commenced with the official opening of the new Kindergarten and Pre-Primary Block by the Minister for Education, Hon Sue Ellery. We were honoured to be welcomed to country by Jonathon Garlett and the dancers from Darling Range Sports College. Our school choir performed beautifully and special guests were presented with gifts from the Kindy Kindness Ninjas.
The open classrooms gave families the opportunity to see their children's work, as well as showing other guests what the classrooms are like now. Displays of memorabilia from 1961 to the present day attracted much interest and generated lots of conversation and reminiscing about the 'good old days.' Guests continued to be entertained by community displays, face painting and balloon art, the school choir and Year 5/6 dance performances, and didgeridoo player, Jeffrey Farrell.
The P&C provided food and took orders for brick pavers which will be laid in the school as a commemoration of the 60th anniversary.
All the current students have completed a written reflection about school at High Wycombe Primary School in 2021, which will go into the time capsule to be opened in 2061 at the school's 100th anniversary. I am sure that the excitement and memories that will generate in 40 years will be just as fun and rewarding as the event that celebrated 60 years of education at High Wycombe.
I would like to thank and acknowledge the committee of staff, parents and community members who worked hard for many months to make this event such a huge success. Thank you also to everyone who assisted in various ways at the event to ensure everything ran smoothly and to MCB Photographics for generously taking photos of the event.
