Darling Range Learning Community
The Darling Range Learning Community includes Darling Range Sports College as well as Dawson Park, High Wycombe, Forrestfield, High Wycombe, Wattle Grove and Woodlupine Primary Schools. This is an alliance of 7 local Public Schools who work together in partnership to deliver great opportunities for our students, staff and schools.
DRLC vision is as a dynamic learning community of schools reflecting education excellence, collaboration and enriched opportunities that lead to quality outcomes for a new generation.
The children of DRLC Schools benefit from the following projects and initiatives, as well as the significant professional learning, resources and knowledge sharing between the staff and leadership of each of the seven schools.
INTERSCHOOL SPORTS OPPORTUNITIES AND COMPETITIONS
- Year 5-6 Summer Carnival (Cricket, Volleyball, TBall) – Term 1
- Year 5-6 Winter Carnival (AFL, Netball, Soccer) – Term 2
- Primary Interschool Athletics Carnival – Term 3
The participation of schools, competitors, officials and spectators in all DRLC sporting events is covered by the DRLC Code of Conduct.
ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT AND EXTENSION
PACES
Selected Year 5 and Year 6 students are invited to participate in the Primary Academic Challenge and Enrichment (PACES) program, where children attend Darling Range Sports College for one session each week to develop higher-order thinking skills, with specialised support and extension teachers and challenges.
MY SCHOOL RULES
My School Rules is an Academic Challenge with a quiz-show set-up, pitting teams of Year 6 students from each school in a test of literacy, numeracy, geography, mathematics and pop culture knowledge. The teams from each school participate in a whole day multi-round competition with an evening final, where the champion school for the year is crowned.
PETER NOACK CITIZENSHIP AWARD
The DRLC fosters active citizenship through a targeted development program for Year 6 students. Each Year 6 student is challenged to identify a change that they can make in their family, school, or wider community. They then set a goal, work towards implementing their project, and present their completed work in Term 4.
The top three children from each school are selected to present their project to an interview panel, from which they are awarded Bronze, Silver or Gold. These awards are announced at a Presentation Evening late in Term 4.
